What size skip do I need?

    • Be sure to get the right size skip - use our handy skip size guide or speak to one of our team in the office for some friendly advice.
    • It’s better to over-estimate than under-estimate the size you need, as you’ll always find something else to put in.
    • To prevent wasted space, break down large bulky items into smaller pieces.
    • A standard skip lorry requires a minimum of 10ft (3.3metres) width to gain access regardless of what size skip you have ordered.

How much does it cost to hire a skip?

    • We offer a bespoke service to make sure that you get the best value for money. The cost depends on the size of skip, where it's located and what's going in it.
    • We price-check our skips and services to make sure that we're always competitive.
    • Our quote will include the hire of the skip, as well as delivery and collection. It also covers the manual sorting and recycling back at our waste transfer station to make sure that as little as possible goes to landfill.
    • Let us know if you'd like the skip placed on the highway as we'll need to arrange for a permit from the local authority which will be an extra cost.
    • We accept credit cards and debit cards or we can take cash or cheques on delivery of your skip.

What kind of waste can I put in the skip?

    • We accept general mixed non-hazardous waste.
    • This includes waste from building, gardening, household, factory, office clearance, wood, cardboard and UPVC.
    • We don't accept hazardous waste unless with prior agreement with the office – this includes food waste, tyres, batteries, asbestos, paints, solvents, flammable liquids and chemicals, fluorescent tubes, animal carcasses, medical waste or fuel. Please call for details.
    • Please let us know if you'd like us to remove an electrical appliance (TVs, computer screens, fridges and freezers) as this may incur a small extra charge.
    • Mattresses are subject to an additional charge.
    • Plasterboard must be kept separate from the contents of your container - bags and dedicated skips can be provided upon request.
    • Garden and heavy waste is limited to skip sizes of 8 yards and under.
    • Please call us if you are unsure or would like some friendly advice.

How quickly can you deliver and collect my skip?

    • We try to deliver your skip within two to four hours of receiving your booking. If you have a specific request, let us know and we'll do our very best to deliver what you need, when you need it.
    • Please remember to have the delivery area clear so we can drop off the skip and move onto the next customer without unnecessary delay.
    • If you need a permit for the skip to be placed on the highway, we'd recommend allowing 5 working days for the paperwork to be finalised before the skip can be delivered.
    • When you've finished with the skip, ring the booking line and we'll programme the skip in for collection. Alternatively you can arrange for collection when you book the skip if you know you will be finished with it by a specific date.
    • You don't have to be in for us to collect the skip.
    • We aim to collect all skips within 24 hours but do offer a same day collection service if you'd like it shifted quickly.

I want to put a skip on the road - do I need a permit, signage or cones?

    • If the skip is being placed on a public highway you'll need a permit from your local council. In all cases PJ Skips will arrange this for you. We'll contact your local council after the skip has been ordered. Please note that although we often receive a permit within hours, some councils can take two to three working days to approve them.
    • The permit period is fixed and varies depending on the authority (it's usually two weeks).
    • We'll contact you prior to the expiry of any licences and suspensions to confirm whether you have finished or would like to extend the licence or suspension period.
    • Some towns require a permit to suspend parking bays. This normally applies where council apply charging for on street parking. Please advise our office when placing your booking and we can arrange the relevant permit to suspend the bay for parking.
    • We'll provide lamps on the skip for safety reasons. You may also need to supply signage and cones. We can talk you through this when you place your booking.

How much can I put in the skip?

    • The waste must be level with the top of the skip.
    • If the waste is filled above this level, we might not be able to transport it safely so excess charges may apply. Or we may refuse to remove the skip until the skip has been unloaded to a safe level.

How long can I keep the skip?

    • We normally allow a period of up to 2 weeks for skip hire. However, we are flexible so if you find you need to keep the skip for longer, please call the office and we'll see what we can do to help.
    • If you do not arrange for a longer term hire with the office in advance, a fee may be charged or, on rare occasions when we're very busy, we may have to collect the skip giving you 48 hours notice.
